2014 Pinot Gris

In 2014, a warm spring and the earliest bloom in 25 years set the stage for our earliest harvest ever, beginning in Southern Oregon’s Rogue Valley on September 13th and a week later in the comparatively cooler Willamette Valley.  Excellent weather continued throughout picking, wrapping up on October 7th.

By blending several vineyard sources and regions and avoiding heavy-handed winemaking techniques we hope to achieve a balanced wine focused on the abundant varietal fruit character of this classic grape.

The 2014 Firesteed Pinot Gris’ Pear blossom and Crenshaw melon aromas meld with flavors of tropical fruit and citrus.  Mouthwatering and enticing, its bright acidity and broad texture entwine throughout the wine’s lingering finish.

2013 Pinot Noir

In 2013, the growing season was early, starting with a warm wet spring, then an exceptional summer that briefly yielded to a wayward storm in late September.  Harvest of ripe fruit began at Firesteed’s Estate Vineyard on Hwy. 99W on September 16th, then three days later at our Erratic Oaks Vineyard on Ballard Road.  Picking continued there and several other selected sites around the Willamette Valley, finishing up on October 15th.

Our 2013 Pinot Noir continues the Firesteed tradition of a consistent fruit driven style, achieved with gentle techniques in the cellar and imagination in the vineyard.  The grapes were fermented in stainless steel tanks with selected yeasts propagated from cellars in Burgundy, pressed during the last days of fermentation, and racked as soon as the wine finished malo-lactic fermentation.  A touch of barrel-aged wine was included in the blend to round out the flavors and enhance complexity.

Lively and expressive, this wine’s aromas of raspberry, cinnamon, blueberry and flavors of cocoa powder and Rainier cherry encourage second sip before flowing into the soft, lingering finish.

2012 Riesling

As vintners, we embrace the return to a focus on the expression of fruit, spice and earth characteristics inherent in great dry Riesling. In 2011 a cool spring and July 5th bloom set the stage for a late harvest.  Fortunately, fantastic fall weather allowed the grapes to fully ripen and Riesling vineyards in teh Willamette Valley and warmer Rogue Valley of Southern Oregon were harvested between October 27th and November 2nd.

The 2011 Firesteed Oregon Riesling echoes the classic varietal character of its old-world ancestors.  Intense aromas of Lemoncello and white peach enhance the wine's spicy notes.  Citrus and Honeydew melon flavors expand on the palate and intensify as the wine warms in the glass.  Bright acidity balances the wine's weighty viscosity that eventurally yields to its soulful minerality.  An open bottle continues to improve over several days, a sign that this wine's greatest days still lay ahead.

About us

Company details

From the moment we began making wine in 1993; we have been dedicated to producing premium quality varietal wines in Oregon at affordable prices. Although Firesteed started small, we’ve enjoyed steady growth, great reviews and the gratifying loyalty of our customers and business partners, all thanks to the consistent quality and value of our wines.

Consistent quality is not always easy to achieve because winemaking is a timeless, mysterious and romantic undertaking, full of unpredictability and challenges. Over the years, we have learned to appreciate and work with the forces of nature, adjusting to the changing cycles of the sun and rain and the fertility of the soil in order to create varietals and blends that are wonderful in youth and often become better with every passing year.

Our first ten years of hard work, perseverance and patience were rewarded in 2002 when we moved into the Firesteed Winery and Tasting Room in Rickreall, Oregon. We invite you to visit us, tour our vineyards and taste our wines surrounded by the legendary beauty of Oregon’s Willamette Valley wine country. You’ll find us about an hour’s drive from Portland, just 13 miles west of Salem and 2 miles north of the intersection of Pacific Highway (99W) and Highway 22.
