AOC Côtes de Provence

"Habillage Noir et Or"

Vintage 2013 : Organic wine certified by FR-BIO 10.

The vintage was marked by a very cold and rainy spring what delayed the blossoming. This delay remained until the harvest. The flowering began on May 26th on young vines. We harvested from September 4th to Spetember 26th.

Culture
Ploughing, no chemical weed killers, animal manure, copper and sulphur treatments.

Vinification
The grapes are picked and sorted by hand, according to their polyphenolic ripeness (depending on the evolution of the maturity, two to three analytical tests and berry tastings are carried out every week in order to determine the optimum harvest date). In the press room, the berries are destemmed, slightly treaded and transferred into stainless steel vats. The alcoholic fermentation is run so as to extract optimum fruit and colour, but also to produce an elegant wine. Maceration lasts about 10 days. Two or three transfers are performed during the maturation. Then the wine is blended in vats and bottled in the Château.

Tasting
Our red wines will seduce you with their elegance and surprise you with their ageing ability ; notes of red fruits, with mellow tannins, long on the palate. They are a perfect match for all meats, cheeses and chocolate, and can be drunk just for pleasure. Best served between 16° an 18°C.

The vintage had rainfall around 900 mm. The months of January and February were cold. We had hoar frost until mid-February. It snowed January 31th and February 4th. The summer 2012 was marked by drought that we found in juice yields at harvest. Blossoming began on May 23rd. The harvest at Barbeyrolles was from August 24th to September 17th.

Company details

Son Histoire

Régine Sumeire, third generation of wine growers, acquired Barbeyrolles in 1977. She fell instantly in love with this property located at the foot of Gassin, one of the three villages on the Saint-Tropez peninsula. Twelve hectares of vines, a preserved spot of magical beauty, which has been painted by many artists, one of whom was Charles Camoin.

This sleepy vineyard required a lot of patience and determination. Since 1978, environmentally sound works have been carried out successively to improve the vineyards and to erect the buildings for wine-making. The first bottles from Château Barbeyrolles came out in April 1982.

In 2004 and 2005, a new cellar was built to take advantage of gravity. A Coquard hydraulic press from Champagne was purchased to supplement our existing presses, the hydraulic Marzola and the pneumatic Bucher.
