San Gimignano Vernaccia

A wine obtained from Vernaccia grapes of San Gimignano. After a brief maceration of the grapes, separated from the bunch and crushed, the juice is taken away from the skins, from which it has aquired aroma and sapidity. This process is followed by a static decantation of the must and, finally, fermentation in steel vats at a controlled temperature. An extended period of fermentation enriches the new wine with floral aromas , complexity and intensity, respecting of the tipicity of these grapes.

Colli Senesi Chianti

From Sangiovese grapes with a small adjunct of Colorino and Lanaiolo, after a maceration of 20 days, this wine is born, rich in color and structure, in grace and elegance. A typical example of the potentialities of the Sangiovese grape grown in the San Gimignano territory.Tuscan Red IGT "Gabriele" Merlot grapes, cultivated at opposite ends of the estate grounds: from the high ground, calcareous and rich in clay, planted in 1999; and from the lush tufa and clay soil farther down the hill; both cool and perfumed with/by ; the mix of these two wines from the terroir of our vineyards, is a total winemaking accomplishment. The first, sweeter, more austere; the second, tallowy and fragrant; both rich in depth. First harvest in 2006, the wine will soon be ready.

"Vigna Santa Maria"

"In a 40-year-old vinyard, I went hunting for finesse". Vigna Santa Maria is a Sienese Chianti Colli Reserve, from Sangiovese and Lanaiolo grapes, from a vinyard I leased in 1997 on land with Chianti-like characteristics. In 2006 six its grapes were for the first time successfully vinified for purity and in September 2008 it the wine will be presented after 18 months èlevage in wooden casks and six in the bottle: excellent for sapidity, mildness, silk, and depth: the perfume of someplace beautiful.

In the beautiful Tuscan countryside, 3 kilometers from the center of San Gimignano, is located the estate of Le Calcinaie.

Speaking is Simone Santini, owner and jack-of-all-trades of this small and well-run estate.

Ever since I earned my degree in wine technology at the Siena Agrarian Institute, I've dreamed of dedicating myself to nature and wine. I was finally able to do this, planting my first vinyard in 1986 and beginning to make wine in 1993.

From 1995 on the estate produces grapes by biological methods: this means copper and sulfur salts as antiparassite insecticides and genuine fertilizer; that is, products with a very low toxicity.

Then from 2001, our wine-making itself is a certified biological process. All my efforts go towards a continuing qualitative improvement of the wines we produce: quality above all.
