Il Matto delle Giuncaie

Vineyard: selection from the Vigna Matta - 200m a.s.l.

Harvest: hand picked.

Vinification: in stainless steel tanks. The fermentation temperature is controlled. The duration of maceration on the skins is 20 days.

Aging: 12-16 months in little French oak barrels of 225 litres of second and third passage and at least 6 months in bottle.

Color: deep purple red.

Bouquet: deep tabacco and liquorice notes well melted with red and black fruits and vanilla flavours.

Taste: it is full and strong, its good structure and sweet tannins make it elegant and thin. It is long and has a sweet finish.
Il Matto delle Giuncaie is a Sangiovese in purity with an original character. A wine that will reward the waiting, it gives its best only at the end of the tasting, when it reveals its tannins and its great complexity and personality. It is perfect served with game birds, aged cheese and grilled meats.

Grape variety: 85% Sangiovese, 15% Cabernet-Sauvignon.

Harvest: Mechanized.

Vinification: in stainless steel tanks. The fermentation temperature is controlled. The duration of maceration on the skins is 10 days.

Aging: 7 months in stainless steel tanks.

Color: Ruby red with violaceus reflex.

Bouquet: strong floreal notes well blended with spices and jams flavours.

Taste: It is rich, warm, very drinkable, with smooth tannins and a rich finish.

Dianella, yesterday and today
The Medicean villa Dianella dates back to the end of the XVI century and was used by the Medici as a country house for hunting. Its name, Dianella, comes from the name Diana, hunting's goddess.
The village of Dianella dates back to end of XVI century. It is made of a few houses, the church of “S. Michaelis de Aliana” of the XIII century and the Villa, built at the end of the 1500 and used by the Medici family like a hunting house.

In 1700 the village became property of the Marchesi Federighi family and later of the Fucini. Here the poet Renato Fucini composed most of his works. He mentions it several times in his sonnets and wrote a novel "A Dianella" of the collection called "Foglie al Vento". The Villa is one of the 54 "Houses of Memory" of Tuscany.

At the beginning of the 1900 Dianella was bought by the Billeri family till to the Conti Passerin d’Entrèves e Courmayeur. Francesco e Veronica Passerin d'Entrèves personally attended the long and accurate restoration of the whole farm, aiming to recreate the typical warm atmosphere and the sense of hospitality that always marked the villa.
