Ruffino Riserva Ducale Oro Chianti Classico Gran Selezione DOCG

Riserva Ducale Oro is a true icon of the whole Chianti Classico category. Twenty years after the birth of Riserva Ducale in 1927, Ruffino created a special edition in 1947 to celebrate a great harvest and show the excellent ageing prospects of its Chianti Classico.
Riserva Ducale Oro is the truest expression of a distinct terroir, 100% sourced from Ruffino's acclaimed Gretole and Santedame Estates in the renowned Castellina subregion of Chianti Classico. This wine is produced only in outstanding vintages. If the grapes don't meet the winemaker's exacting standards, the wine will not be made.
Produced only in the best vintages, from the 2010 vintage Riserva Ducale Oro fully falls within the Chianti Classico Gran Selezione category.

Santedame Chianti Classico

The Santedame Estate located near the village of Castellina in Chianti, in the heart of the Chianti Classico area.
Hilly land with poor and not very profound soil, characterized by a mix of clay and sand, rich in skeleton (marl). The very permeable soil, the windy position of the vineyards and the high day-night temperature swings, accentuated by the high altitude, form a microclimate which is very favourable for an optimal maturation process of the grapes and give richness and very elegant perfumes to the wine.

Riserva Ducale Chianti Classico Riserva DOCG

The history of Riserva Ducale is full of awards: 90+ from numerous American magazines, the undisputed title of most-recognized Italian wine in the US,  several Gambero Rosso's esteemed "Tre Bicchieri" prizes for the 2004 vintage etc.
Though outstanding, the praise received from critics doesn't tell the whole story of this wine. Riserva Ducale does indeed constitute the heart of Ruffino's history but, dare we say it, it's also an integral part of the history of Italian wine. It all started when Ruffino was founded in Pontassieve in 1877. The area's Sangiovese varietal was doted upon from the beginning with a special selection, the Chianti Stravecchio, a wine created for only the most significant of occasions such as the Sunday lunch and other important celebrations. It was a wine to be stored in the cellar, forgotten about and opened only many years later: a revolutionary concept for the nineteenth-century Tuscan tenant farmer of the time.

Modus IGT

In Modus, which in Latin stands for “the way”, tradition and innovation meet. Modus is Ruffino’s way of tieing a bond between the Tuscan territory and three noble grape varieties: the elegance of Sangiovese, the structure of Cabernet Sauvignon and the smoothness of Merlot. Modus is the result of ten years of research and careful selection of vineyards best suited to these three varietals, from among the six Ruffino estates across Tuscany: just one of the advantages of having vineyards in each of the main Tuscan denomination areas. The cooler areas provide the necessary acidic vein in warmer times, and in cooler years the Modus remains full-bodied thanks to the vines from the south of Tuscany.

Company details

Ruffino
Founded in 1877 by cousins Ilario and Leopoldo Ruffino in the heart of Tuscany, in the village of Pontassieve near Florence, Ruffino today is synonymous with the world’s most beloved Tuscan wines.
Since the twentieth century, Ruffino has become a synonym for the Italian wine worldwide thanks to its successful Chianti. Ruffino was actually one of the first wineries to cross the ocean and establish itself as the Chianti of the Americans.
Classic wines such as Chianti Classico Riserva Ducale, Chianti Ruffino and Brunello di Montalcino have been the soul of Ruffino’s portfolio. The foresight of the winery and the desire of new exciting challenges, has also led to the creation of imposing Supertuscans, such as Modus and other wines produced with local and international grape varieties, for instance Lumina Pinot Grigio and Prosecco Ruffino.
In 2011 Ruffino has been acquired by Constellation Brands, the world’s leading premium wine US company:a new large family embraces Ruffino and welcomes it among its brightest stars.
