2013 Hoopes Dante's Block Cabernet Sauvignon

“With the fabulous 2013 vintage, we couldn’t help but to make a wine in honor of our beloved Dante. Anne and Jennifer both grew up as winemakers in Oakville, despite some detours along the way, and have a special connection with the distinctiveness of our old vine vineyard in the Oakville area. Dante’s was my father’s favorite vineyard dog, and was well known for protecting the vineyard and bringing out the best in all of us while farming. When a vintage warrants a special reserve due to exceptional quality, we look to Dante for inspiration to make the best possible Cabernet Sauvignon that we can.

This year Dante’s Block is a rare showcase of the best rows of our vineyard. Because of our new approach to small-batch fermentation - which occurs in fourteen distinct lots within our old-vine vineyard - we can determine which areas of the vineyard are performing exceptionally well in any given year. We have diverse soil series in this area, which results in significant variation in phenolic ripeness. Small batch picking and fermentation allows us to isolate the very best grape clusters within the vineyard with magnificent particularity. We hand sorted the best lots to create this special Cabernet Sauvignon just for our most loyal customers. You will never see this wine released to the public.”

2013 Hoopes Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon

“Made with the same care and thoughtfulness of our single vineyard series, the Hoopes Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon is a blend of fruit from six different vineyards across Napa Valley including our home vineyard in Oakville . In an effort to bring affordable quality, we have produced this blend to ensure a more value driven price point without compromising quality.”

"More delicate and floral than our Oakville offering, this wine reveals aromas of caramel, crème cola and ripe plum, which moves into cedar with light notes of bay leaf adding complexity and freshness to the nose. A supple entry and lively, drive through palate resolves to clean delineated finish. This is a nice, solid wine with a good juicy red fruit character that translates well to the mouth with a deepening of character.” - Winemakers, Anne Vawter & Jennifer Rue

2014 Hoopes Genny's Vineyard Chardonnay, Carneos, Napa Valley

“Because many of our Hoopes fans love Chardonnay as well, we thought that we would set out to produce a wine that would complement our vision of Cabernet Sauvignon: a wine that blends our old-world approach to production and farming, with a true sense of Napa terroir. Although we have Chardonnay vineyards in Yountville, Anne and Jennifer felt that some of the most interesting terroir for Chardonnay comes from Carneros, and they had a vineyard in mind.

Jen has been working with Genny’s Vineyard for several vintages, and believes it is one of the most exceptional vineyards that she has worked with. Genny’s Vineyard has been farmed by a local family for decades, and is named after the family’s maternal grandmother. Carneros is a very difficult area to farm, but provides some interesting characteristics in the area terroir. It is a cooler area, with maritime influences from the San Pablo Bay, so it is windy with thin soils. The vineyard is therefore very low yield, with small berry size and slow grape development. These tough farming conditions nevertheless build distinctive character.”
