Karas Red Wine

Producer: “Tierras de Armenia” C.J.S.C.

Vintage: 2013

Origin: Armavir Region, Republic of Armenia

Harvest date: middle of September, 2013. Hand harvested.

Blend information: Syrah, Tannat, Malbec, Petit Verdot.

Bottling date: July 2014

Climate: continental highlands climate with hot summers and cold dry winters.

Soil: stony, heavy soil of volcanic origin.

Vinification: Hand harvested grapes are selected on the table before cold maceration. Fermentation is carried out at 26-28ºC for 20 days. Malolactic fermentation is realized in tanks.

Serving suggestions: It pairs good with red meats and pastas. Combines well with chocolate, too.

Tasting notes: This blend has intense ruby red color. One can feel red fruit aromas and some chocolate. In mouth is elegant, has good acidity and sweet tannins.

Aging potential: ready for immediate enjoyment.

Best before: 2017 (three years after bottling)

Ideal serving: 16 to 18 °C.

Wine analysis:

Alcohol: 14.2%.

Residual sugar: 2 g/l.

Producer’s comment: Excellent blend with big potential of aromas of fruits. The acidity makes the wine even more elegant.

Karas Muscat

Origin: Armavir Region, Republic of Armenia

Harvest date: Beginning of September 2013. Hand harvested.

Bottling date: August 2014

Climate: Continental highlands climate with hot summers and cold dry winters.

Soil: stony, heavy soil of volcanic origin.

Vinification: Hand harvested grapes are pressed. After a cool 24 hour decantation process, the juice is fermented at 14-16ºC for 20 days.

Serving suggestions: pairs well with appetizers, seafood and fruit desserts.

Tasting notes: The wine has an intense yellow color displaying sweet aromas typical to Muscat variety such as pineapple and mango with some notes of minerals. The elegant acidity is delicately combined with fruit aromas.

Aging potential: ready for immediate enjoyment.

Best before: 2016 (two years after bottling)

Ideal serving: 7 to 12 °C.

Wine analysis:

Alcohol: 14.2%.

Residual sugar: 2 g/l.

Producer’s comment: Fresh and elegant wine. The mineral soil gives an important acidity and feels good flavors in the aftertaste.

Harvest date: middle of September 2013. Hand harvested.

Blend information: Syrah, Montepulciano, Ancellota, Petit Verdot.

Bottling date: August 2014

Climate: continental highlands climate with hot summers and cold dry winters.

Soil: stony, heavy soil of volcanic origin.

Vinification: Grapes are harvested in boxes of 20 Kg. They are selected on double selection tables. Cold maceration is carried out for 5 days. Fermentation is realized at 26-28ºC for 20 days. Malolactic Fermentation is realized in tanks. After fermentation the wine is placed in Armenian and French oak barrels for 14 months.

Serving suggestions: Best served with red meats, lamb and loin chops.

Tasting notes: this blend has intense red color. One can feel elegant red fruits and berries’ aromas and some chocolate and vanilla notes coming from barrels. In mouth is elegant, very creamy, has good acidity and sweet tannins. It is very persistent.

Aging potential: ready for immediate enjoyment.

Best before: 2019 (Five years after bottling)

Ideal serving: 16 to 18 °C.

Wine analysis:

Alcohol: 14%.

Residual sugar: 1.8 g/l.

Producer’s comment: Complex and elegant. In mouth  has  good  structure, complex and balanced  with sweet tannins and  well  toasted wood assemblies.

Karas is a newly established winery in the West of Armavir Region. Located in Ararat Valley, between Mount Aragats and Mount Ararat, Armavir is the smallest and the most densely populated region in Armenia. The convenient location and the favourable climate have allowed this thriving region to become the epicentre of agricultural development. Aside from its highly agricultural background, Armavir also holds a rich historical and cultural legacy, thus attracting thousands of natives and tourists each year to well-known sites, such as the Sardarapat Battle Memorial, the religious and spiritual centre of the Armenian Apostolic Church: the Holy City of Echmiadzin. In 2003 the pursuit for developing an inspiring project lead us to discover these lands rich in minerals and suitable for high quality wine elaboration.The innovation and technology were key factors in achieving our objective, and as from 2010, the production of Karas allowed us to have our first commercial production and so define a new way in the production of Armenian wines.

We have taken our historical experience and embarked on an honest quest to produce wine we are proud of. To achieve perfect quality, every element, as essential as the overall experience, is taken into account: the location of the vineyards, the window for perfect ripeness, the wine's journey to its optimal maturity, the visual components, the length of flavours, the aromatic notes as well as the body of the wine. All of these components combine to not only measure the quality and sample of the wine, but more importantly, enhance the experience of the sample.
