Red Wine Carbonic Maceration 2015

GRAPE VARIETIES
90% Tempranillo, 10% Viura.

VINEYARD/ORIGIN
Vineyards located in Tudelilla, in the group of parcels called "La Lastra Baja".

ELABORATION
Ortega Ezquerro Red is elaborated under the carbonic maceration system. This traditional method is very normal in some other parts of Rioja, but it is a great surprise in our region, in Tudelilla.
Whithout prior crushing, the bunches of grapes are put into stainless steel vats. This step is extremely carefully made as it is important to prevent the grapes from breaking. Maceration takes place from 8 to 10 days, fermenting at a controlled temperature of 24ºC approximately.

Tasting notes
This traditional method enhances remarkably fresh red fruit aromas and tones of violet flowers and licorice. Our vine has clean and bright appearance, with a deep cherry-red colour and violet tones that shows its youth. In the nose the wine is powerful, expressive and lively, with strawberry, raspberry and banana aromas, with a floral background.
In the mouth, it is flavorsome and balanced, full-bodied, with a very pleasant attack, fleshy and very long aftertaste.

SERVING AND PAIRING RECOMMENDATIONS
Serving temperature between 12-15ºC. Perfect with red meats, game, stews, rice dishes, mushrooms, blue fish and cured cheese.

Pink Wine 2015

Grape Varieties
90% Garnacha, 10% Viura.

VINEYARD/ORIGIN
Vineyard located 550 meters above sea level.

Elaboration
After an early harvest, we make a pre-fermentative maceration until the desired color is achieved.
After this time, we proceed to the “bleeding” or the division of the must and solid dough, and fermentation takes place at a controlled temperature of 15ºC.

Tasting Notes
Pale salmon-pinkish, almost onion-skin colour.
Very elegant, complex and expresive in the nose, with a huge number of aromas and sensations. Ripe and sweet aromas, with hints of tropical fruit (grapefruit, passion fruit and orange peel).
In the mouth, it is friendly in its volume, greedy, leaving a long and crispy aftertaste.

Serving and Pairing Recommendations
Serving temperature: 11-13ºC. Ideal with aperitifs, cold dishes such as white asparagus, seafood salad, pasta or risotto.

Crianza 2013

Grape Varieties
80% Tempranillo, 20% Garnacha

VINEYARD/ORIGIN
Finca el Monte, vineyards aged more that 70 years old. Located at 650 meters altitude, in Tudelilla village boundary.

Elaboration
In the winery, the grape is destalked and slightly crushed. The fermentation temperatures are controlled up to 28-29ºC and the devatting is fast when it is perceived that the colour extraction has reached optimal levels.
Subsequently, the wine is put into the barrels, where it will remain during 14-16 months. The wine will be aged 70% of the time in new American oak barrels and 30% in “second-year” French barrels.

Tasting Notes
Intense red cherry color.
Aromas of red fruits, strawberry, raspberry and cranberry framed by fine nuances of spices, vanilla and toffe.
Well-balanced and full-bodied wine, with very round tannins. Silky and structured on the palate. It has a sweet and very enveloping attack with a long and pleasant aftertaste. Pleasant reminders of vanilla, spices and toffe.

Serving and Pairing Recommendations
Serve at 16-18ºC. Excellent accompainment with all types of food: cold starters, pasta, pizza, poultry and grilled red meat.

SOIL, STONES AND RESPECT

The Ortegas are one of those families of cosecheros that have managed to adapt to modern times, preserving their philosophy of quality and craftsmanship in their wines and adapting to present-day oenology.

The story of Ortega Ezquerro begins with Quintín Ortega, who planted the family’s first vines back in the year 1896. At that stage, our founding father was a humble barrel-maker with ambitions, who as well as making barrels for the aging and shipping of wine, decided to go a step further by planting some vines. Later he refurbished an ancient wine cellar to turn it into a winery where he made and aged wine for his family.

Many years have passed down to the present day in which Quintín Ortega’s great-grandson, Carmelo Ortega, the current head of the family, also heads the winery and is responsible for leading it along the right path. Eager to evolve and improve, Carmelo has embarked on a new project with ambitious oenological objectives and a clearly defined goal, namely to give the wines from our Pedriza the value they deserve and to position the concept in the market, with the support of a solid modern brand that meets the quality expectations of the Designation of Origin area in which we find ourselves, without ever forgetting our origins as a “village wine”.

Humans
Ortega Ezquerro has a relevant figure in the scheme of the winery, his name is Carmelo Ortega.

Great-grandson of the founder of Quintin Ortega in 1896. He was breeder, after grower and now precursor of these village wines with personality, with Tudelilla as image. All of this initiative has another protagonist behind the scenes, he is the responsible of the wines of the winery that have become an argument with unquestionable value showing mime, quality and knowledge. We are speaking about the Winemaker David Bastida, right hand of Carmelo.
