Our products

Product category: Rioja

NAVAJAS WHITE CRIANZA 2014

Denominación de Origen: D.O.Ca Rioja

Area: Rioja Alta

Grape varieties: 100% Viura

Viticulture: Grapes are grown exclusively in vineyards close to the winery in Navarrete, with an average age of 25 years.
Hand-picked between the last week of September and the first fortnight of October.

Winemaking: Traditional, free-run juice with a light prior maceration, after which it is lees racked and fermented in stainless steel tanks at controlled temperatures of 15-17º C.

Ageing: After the alcoholic fermentation, we select wine above all according to its aromatic properties and structure and move into new French and American oak barrels, where it remains for a minimum of 6 months – depending on our tasting, the characteristics acquired during its evolution, and the original grape.
Once racked off, it is gently clarified, cold stabilised and then bottled.

Tasting note: Delicate, intriguing and fresh on the palate, but warm and ripe at the same time. Light yellow in colour with a few golden highlights – all of which is due to the balance between its youthful flavours and those provided by oak.

Food pairing: Very appropriate with any kind of fish, shellfish or cheese.

Serving temperature:  12-14ºC

NAVAJAS RESERVA 2010

Denominación de Origen: D.O.Ca Rioja

Area:   Rioja Alta

Grape varieties: 90% Tempranillo, 10% Graciano

Viticulture: Using our oldest vineyards, our experience, and trying to marry the best characteristics of our red varieties, we carefully select the grapes to be used for this wine.
Hand-picked in the first fortnight of October.

Winemaking: Follows the traditional method, with de-stemmed grapes.  Fermentation takes place naturally at controlled temperatures, great care being taken to ensure that all the potential of the vineyard is extracted, and then stabilised and fine tuned during ageing.

Ageing: The wine is moved to barrels after a short period of natural rest following malolactic fermentation, clarification and filtering.  It sits in new French and American oak for a minimum of 20 months, and is then bottled and aged in our bottle cellar until it reaches the correct balance for release onto the market.

Tasting note: Ruby red and with medium depth. After its barrel and bottle ageing, this wine reaches the desired balance and a fine bouquet, where both ripe fruit and spicy and herbal aromas can be appreciated.
It is fleshy and broad on the palate, with a very expressive and elegant finish and a long, serene aftertaste.

Food pairing: Particularly good with Iberian cold meats, cheeses, red meat and game.

Serving temperature: 16-18ºC.

NAVAJAS RED CRIANZA 2013

Denominación de Origen: D.O.Ca Rioja

Area:   Rioja Alta

Grape varieties: 85% Tempranillo, 10% Graciano, 5% Mazuelo

Viticulture:  Born from selected grapes, and from plots chosen as a result of years of analysing vineyards belonging both to the bodega and to our suppliers.
Hand-picked between the last week of September and the first fortnight of October.

Winemaking:  Our criteria for making red wines is similar: strive for the best phenolic and aromatic ripeness, always bearing in mind each year and the characteristics of the wine we wish to obtain.
For that reason we use the traditional method of de-stemming.  Fermentation takes place naturally at controlled temperatures, great care being taken to ensure that the potential achieved in the vineyard is reflected in the wine, and, on its transfer to barrels, that this stabilises and matures.

Ageing: After malolactic fermentation, the wine is clarified and filtered, rests in American and French oak barrels, where it remains for a minimum of 12 months. After this barrel ageing, it is then bottled and aged in our bottle cellar until it reaches the correct balance for its release onto the market.

Tasting note:  Morello cherry red with violet highlights, and a good balance in aroma between the liveliness and fruitiness of the dominant variety, and that contributed by the oak.
Broad on the palate, with soft but well-structured tannins, rounded, long, with fine and pleasant finish.

Food pairing: The ideal accompaniment to cold meats and cheeses, red meat and game.

Serving temperature: 15-16ºC.

About us

Company details

"Our name, our origin: the history of a family"

Bodegas Navajas S.L. is a family winery, situated in the village of Navarrete, in the heart of the D.O.C. Rioja.

Since our foundation in 1918, generation after generation have tried to be faithful to our principle of “Making quality wines”.

Our modern facilities include three ageing cellars for 10.000 barrels, and a bottle ageing cellar for 200.000 bottles, both of which are equipped with the latest technology for the treatment and care of our wines.

For us wine production begins in the vineyard itself.  Depending on its situation and soil type, each plot and each grape variety is carefully looked after with a view to the wine that will finally be obtained.

We produce white, rosé and particularly red wines some of which are bottled as young wines and the rest as Crianza, Reserva and Gran Reserva wines.

There are occasions in which being small is more important than being big. There are exceptional moments when quality prevails over quantity. There are very occasional moments when tradition is kept alive over the years. There are times when nothing can replace all the wisdom of the palate. Thus sometimes, and only sometimes, all this comes together so that a whole universe revolves around a bottle. A wine allied with time”  Antonio Navajas
