It is grown almost exclusively in the hilly area of the former eastern border, especially in Cividale del Friuli. Its history dates back to the twelfth century; according to the “Annali del Friuli” by Francesco da Manzano, indeed, on 25 December 1565, a cup of Ribolla wine was offered to Marquard Patriarch upon his arrival.

Cabernet Franc

DOC Friuli Colli Orientali - Dry red wine

This grape variety came from France in the late nineteenth century, and more specifically from the Bordeaux area, and is one of the three components, along with Merlot and Cabernet Franc, of the so-called “Bordeaux blend”. Vinified alone, Cabernet Franc is one of the most popular wines in Friuli Venezia Giulia, as well as in Eastern Veneto.

COLOUR
Medium intense ruby red wine.

AROMAS
Characterised by herbaceous aromas of dry hay immediately after bottling. Asfter aging, it becomes more elegant, losing, even though not entirely, its herbaceous aroma.

TASTE
Delicately fruity, wild, marked by vegetal and herbaceous notes, soft.

FOOD PAIRINGS
The perfect wine for grilled and barbecued red meat, roasted and braised meats, as well as wild game. To be served at 18°- 20°C.

Picolit

DOCG Colli Orientali del Friuli - Native sweet white wine

This wine is famous for at least two reasons: its palatability and its low-volume production. An old grape variety, already grown during the Roman Empire, then disappeared and recovered in 1700-1800, and disappeared once again and recovered around 1970. According to Antonio Zanon (1767) this delicious wine was pretty popular at the courts of Germany, England and France, where a visionary entrepreneur of the time, Count Fabio Asquini, was sent. Picolit dei Colli Orientali del Friuli was awarded the DOCG (Controlled and Guaranteed Designation of Origin) in 2005.

COLOUR
Bright golden yellow white wine, even brighter after aging.

AROMAS
Intense aromas marked by hints of honey, liquorice, tropical fruit.

TASTE
Sweet, soft, with hints of aromatic wood and wild flowers and delicate notes of ripe fruit, balanced, with a long finish.

FOOD PAIRINGS
A classic meditation and dessert wine, ideal for special occasions. It goes well with dry pastries, but also with spicy cheeses. Also appreciated as an aperitif wine. Best served fresh but not too cold.
