About us

Company details

The ridge which is home to the Mondo family cellar bears a striking resemblance to the profile of a sleeping woman.

The particolar composition of the soil and a temperate microclimate make it the ideal place for cultivating vines.

The Mondos have been recognised in the town of San Marzano Oliveto, near Asti, as wine-makers for generations and are, as such, much appreciated.

The grand -father Ernesto founded the estate at his coming back from the second world war, the production was little and was sold all in demijohn for many years , only with the inclusion in the estate of Franco in 1978 the things changed: he continued to make basic wines but started bottle some type of them , bought  some other vineyards and increased the sales network starting sell in all Piemonte and a part of Liguria. Valerio started work in his family estate in 1992 after graduating from enotechnician and became owner of it in 2002, he did the real revolution of the estate starting to produce more quality wines and increasing sales with restaurants, wine shops, bars and then entering the abroad markets. Nowadays  they export around 40% of the production and the 60% sold in Italy is to the private market as to the distribution.

The company, which still maintains its artisan, family character, is run by Valerio and his father Franco.

Their estate covers about twelve hectares of vineyards, approximately 60 % of which are dedicated to the cultivation of Barbera grapes while the rest is divided between Moscato Bianco, Dolcetto, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cortese, Chardonnay and Favorita varieties.

Valerio is an enologist and as well as concerning himself with the agricultural aspect of the vineyards he supervises each step of the grape selection and the wine-making process which takes place  in  the  family  homestead,  just a  stone’s  throw  from  the  vineyards  and  Franco  is   the agricultural expert responsible for the various stages of cultivation.

Among the most important wines – all of the Mondo family’s wine are D.O.C. and D.O.C.G. – the Barbera d’Asti is perhaps the most important of all.

The range is completed by the other wines: Moscato d’Asti, Passito of  Moscato, Monferrato Dolcetto, Cortese dell’ Alto Monferrato, Monferrato Bianco, Monferrato Rosso and Grappa obtained from the artful distillation of Moscato and Barbera marc.
