Il Chiosso was founded in 2007 by Marco Arlunno - a Ghemme winemaker - and Carlo Cambieri, vineyards owner and supervisor.
The project was born by the fusion of the skills in winemaking of Marco, who has got a Master's degree in oenology, and the passion of Carlo, who has got an engineering Master's degree, and was always fascinated by the world of winemaking.
A winning venture, which allowed to join both the high quality wines of Northern Piedmont: Gattinara and Colline Novaresi.
Gattinara e Ghemme, two different interpretations of Northern Piedmont Nebbiolo
The two top wines of Northern Piedmont - Gattinara and Colline Novaresi - are deeply different from each others. Our vinification processes have the intent to emphasize the different characteristics given by the Terroir.
Colline Novaresi area is more humid and less airy then Gattinara area. The soils of Ghemme, morainic, i suoli del Ghemme, di origine morenica, have less gravel with some clay that allows to keep the water in more easily. Thus the physiology of the vine is completely different.
Besides, while for the Gattinara wine we chosed to use 100% pure Nebbiolo, we allow a small percent of Bonarda and Vespolina in our Ghemme, which is allowed by the regulator. This gives our Ghemme a better identity.
In our absolute conviction that the Upper Piedmont terroir can give incredible wines in any aspect, we have set ourselves the goal to cultivate personally the vineyards in the most absolute respect for nature and its rhythms, in the most traditional ways.
