Phylloxera is, or rather was, one of the most serious natural disasters of agriculture.
It is a deadly parasite that feeds on the roots of the vines and that once it has attacked a vineyard, it destroys it completely. Native to the American continent, the Phylloxera Castratix is aphid arrived in Europe around 1850, via steamboats that allowed cross the Atlantic in less than ten days, enough time for the parasite to survive. From France the Phylloxera quickly spreads throughout Europe, literally destroying the vineyards. Fortunately, in the Zanasi homesteads, not all plants were affected and still over 150 years later it produces from the vineyard “ungrafted” a wine from grapes Grasparossa of great importance and unmistakable scent and flavour: Excelsus.
Typical Lambrusco of yore, with Italian graft, and with stalk that turns red when ripe. Zanasi offers this wine with great passion and pride.
Wine from Tradition, with the effervescent pleasure, intense ruby red colour, brisk reflexes with the purple foam. Frothy in its powerful tannin, it is remarkable at the nose for the clarity of his odorous structure: wide and turgid is the outline of his very
thick fruit. Bubbly at the nose, this wine exhibits all its complexity. The scents are those of the territory: vinous, fruity, flowery with extraordinary areas of raspberry, red fruit and blueberry, we recognize a note of violet and ripe citrus fruit. The registering
then its pulpy power are not in intensity and vigour but rather in fragrance and depth; this is due to the oenological transformations as well as the rigorous viticulture at the base. In the mouth it has a great structure and body, vivacious, with a ripe vein typical of this amazing product. Its softness in swallowing effectively balances the decisive power at the start. A pleasant wine suitable to the cousine of every territory,easily paired with red meat, stuffed pasta, lasagna, cheese, perfect with very fat fish (eel-sheatfish-catfish) and stewed codfish, stewed donkey.
