2014 Pfeiffer Carlyle Chardonnay Marsanne

Pfeiffer Carlyle wines are hand-selected parcels of premium regional fruit, skilfully blended to create distinctive wines for your enjoyment.

Our 2014 Chardonnay Marsanne is a delicious, un-wooded wine displaying lifted aromas of white peach and citrus fruits. The palate is fresh and fruit driven, with a gentle creamy texture persisting to a clean, crisp finish.

A blend of 3 parcels, which were each fermented separately in stainless steel tanks for approximately 14 days at temperatures between 14°and 16° Celsius.

Both the Chardonnay and Marsanne parcels received extended lees contact (batonagè) in tank for 7 months. This helps to create a creamy texture across the mid palate. The wine was then blended, fined and clarified prior to bottling.

2012 Pfeiffer Carlyle Cabernet Sauvignon

Pfeiffer Carlyle wines are hand-selected parcels of premium regional fruit, skilfully blended to create distinctive wines for your enjoyment.

Our 2012 Pfeiffer Carlyle Cabernet Sauvignon displays a lifted bouquet of violets, black berries and mint. The palate is medium to full bodied, with ripe berry fruit and a long, lingering finish.

A blend of 5 different parcels of fruit, all picked at separate times and thus handled separately in the winery. A cold soak for a minimum of 2 days was given to each parcel. Each ferment was run at different temperatures (between 20 and 28°C) and was pumped over twice daily for varying intervals to give different levels of tannin and colour.  One parcel of each Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon finished its ferment in one year old French oak hogsheads.

The wine was matured in French and American oak barrels for 12 months before being blended, fined and clarified prior to bottling in September 2013.

2014 Pfeiffer Carlyle Shiraz

Pfeiffer Carlyle wines are hand-selected parcels of premium regional fruit, skilfully blended to create distinctive wines for your enjoyment.

Our 2014 Pfeiffer Carlyle Shiraz has an attractive deep purple red colour. Aromas of warming spices and ripe red fruits greet the nose. The palate is rich and fleshy, with ripe plum and berry fruit on the mid palate and a spicy, savoury finish.

The 2014 Pfeiffer Carlyle Shiraz has been made with grapes from 6 vineyard sites, all offering various characters. The grapes from each vineyard were handled separately. Each parcel was given a cold soak for 2-3 days prior to fermentation. Fermentation occurred in both open fermenters (with hand plunging three times daily) and static fermenters (with hand pump overs or rack and returns twice daily) at temperatures of 22-27°C.  All parcels were kept on skins until fermentation was complete, then they were pressed into tank to complete MLF before commencing barrel maturation.

Each parcel was matured separately, in American and French oak barrels (a mix of puncheons, hogsheads and barriques) for 12-14 months. The wine was blended, fined and clarified prior to bottling in early September 2015.

2014 Pfeiffer Tempranillo

Tempranillo is a variety renowned for its warmth and generosity of flavour. Its savoury nature complements a wide range of food styles.

Our 2014 Pfeiffer Tempranillo has a deep and dark red colour. The nose is fresh and perfumed, with aromas of red berries, chocolate and spice. The palate is vibrant and juicy, with red fruits on the mid-palate and a lingering, savoury finish.

A single vineyard wine, our 2014 Tempranillo was crushed into a static stainless steel fermenter and underwent a cold maceration for 2 days. It was fermented on skins at temperatures between 20 and 25°C, with pump overs and rack and returns twice daily. With approximately 1/3 of the ferment remaining, juice was run-off from the skins and transferred into six new French and American oak hogsheads to complete fermentation; with the remainder finishing ferment on skins.

The barrel fermented wine was left on its yeast lees for the full length of its barrel maturation (16 months), with weekly batonage. The other component was transferred to 4 year old French oak barriques, 5 year old French oak hogsheads and 1 year old American oak hogsheads for maturation for 12 months. After oak maturation, the wine was blended, fined and clarified prior to bottling in early September 2015.

2013 Pfeiffer Durif

Durif, a variety synonymous with Rutherglen, has a gloriously vibrant, incredibly dark colour with magnificent depth of flavour and delicious richness on the palate.

Our 2013 Durif is an inky, dark purple colour. The nose exhibits ripe plum and blackberry fruit, with a touch of spice. A rich and powerful wine, the palate is full of dark fruit and chocolate flavours that persist to a long tannin finish.

The 2013 Pfeiffer Durif is sourced from a single vineyard on the north eastern side of Rutherglen. The fruit was given a cold maceration for 4 days prior to fermentation on skins at temperatures of 20-25°C for 12 days. During fermentation it was pumped over twice daily for short periods of time to avoid over extraction. At the end of fermentation the wine was pressed into new American oak hogsheads and a stainless steel tank to undergo malolactic fermentation.

The 2013 Pfeiffer Durif was matured in a combination of French and American oak of various size and age for approximately 18 months. The wine was then blended, fined and clarified prior to bottling in December 2014.

Pfeiffer Rutherglen Topaque

Since the first grapes were harvested at Rutherglen in the 1850’s, connoisseurs of fine fortified wines have recognised the Topaques and Muscats of the region as wines of unsurpassed richness. Rutherglen Topaques and Muscats are classified under four descriptions that mark a progression in richness, complexity and intensity of flavour. “Rutherglen Topaque” is the foundation style; showing fresh fruit characters and integration of spirit.

The Pfeiffer Rutherglen Topaque is a fine example of this foundation style. It is fresh and vibrant, expressing lifted honey and vanilla bean aromas, luscious honey flavours and a lingering finish.

Partial fermentation occurs on skins prior to pressing and fortification using a neutral grape spirit, leaving a sweet wine of around 18% v/v.

Each year Muscadelle grapes are harvested at high sugar levels. After fortification this wine is clarified then transferred into barrels and casks of different volumes for several years (anything between three and thirty). It is this maturation process that concentrates the wines and produces the rich complex flavours. These parcels of varying ages are then blended together prior to bottling to create a wine in perfect balance, for drinking now.
