Set on sprawling lakeside grounds the Serafino cellar door is an archetypal McLaren Vale setting for a range of wines that speaks loudly of exceptional vineyards, dedicated winemaking and a sense of regional style. It was established in 2000, though has a backstory that dates to the 70s.
Serafino produces some seriously delicious wines, but also had the enviable reputation as one of the more activity rich wineries in the region, hosting a swathe of events including their reputed concert series that sees big name acts take over the grounds for enjoyable nights out plein air.
Cellar door operates as a lens on the wine production, which focuses not only on McLaren Vale staples like Shiraz, Grenache and Cabernet Sauvignon, but uses the touchstones of Maglieris Italian background to showcase newer-to-Australia varieties like Nebbiolo, Primitivo, Sangiovese, Tempranillo, Montepulciano, Fiano and Vermentino – there are nearly 30 wines (and olive oil!) to be experienced through a guided tasting, giving a comprehensive overview of the regions best vinous assets.
Serafino Wines also has its own botting plant, called McLaren Vale Bottlers, which has expanded to a well know and highly regarding bottling line.
