Born in Pavia on the 3th June 1949, the winemaker Teresio Schiavi moved in Franciacorta in 1978, when he knows the engineer Giacomo Cavalli from Paderno of Franciacorta. Mirabella born in 1979 thanks to this fraternal friendship; originally a small company with a production of 8000 bottles, set in the old textile mill in the country, which over time has been able to stand out and become one of the leading companies in Franciacorta.
The name of the company derives from Mirabella locations where they were about 11 hectares, owned by Mr. Cavalli, and where there is the Tower, historic symbol of the company. Mr. Cavalli had the land in Paderno Franciacorta, of which 2.5 hectares of vineyards in the area called “Brolo”, and the former Spinning Mill building, used as a cellar. Here, in 1980, they produced the first 3,200 bottles of Franciacorta and bottled 20,000 red wine. Among the first to believe in the ambitious project named Franciacorta, in 1980 the two partners, decided to grow 5 hectares of Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Pinot Blanc, grape that is still distinctive feature of the Company. In addition, they offer the possibility to some entrepreneurs and professionals in the area to get in now. The result is a cooperative with 15 hectares of land under vine.
From Cooperative to Agricultural Society
Between 1980 and 1984 Mirabella continues to establish and expand in transforming from Cooperative to Agricultural Society. In 1985, the company headquarters is moved from Paderno Franciacorta to the current Rodengo Saiano town. The larger spaces and underground cellars are able to ensure efficient processing of the grapes and optimal humidity and temperature for the evolution of Franciacorta bottles stacked and aging on lees. In 1995 they started work on important equipment, facilities and buildings. In 2000 they expanded the stock of aging and the area of the holding reaches the current 2,200 square meters and totally conditioned. In 2004 they planted 15 hectares of new vineyards in a single block in the municipality of Passirano. Overall the production area reaches the 40 hectares and 10 replanting. The company produces 450,000 bottles a year of Franciacorta DOCG of different types: Brut, Rosé, Satèn, Vintage and Reserves. In 2013 a major investment in equipment leads to the purchase of a custom line of disgorgement, among the most advanced in terms of technology. This purchase allows to double the production capacity of the company, improving quality processing.
Mirabella has always been and continues to lead in different fields, without ever neglecting the eco-compatibility in both the vineyard, where production is certified with low environmental impact, and in the cellar, where they use the 100% energy from renewable sources (55 tonnes less carbon dioxide emitted annually). Moreover, Mirabella came first in Europe to provide stability during the storage of the Franciacorta, without adding any allergen. With “Elite” Franciacorta DOCG Extra Brut was reached the maximum of the objectives: allergens and in particular sulfites were eliminated, both added and natural (below 10 mg / liter, declaration limit). Finally, the commitment of Mirabella is thus crowned with success, always turned to full respect for the consumer and Franciacorta
