Cognac 20 year old

Characteristics :
During the XIXth century and uptil the 30s, vintages were an important part of the cognac trade.  It is still possible to find old vintages coming from the House of Prunier in certain auction sales. In 1986 we decided to renew with this tradition and as we had cognacs which had been aged in cellars controlled by the Excise Authorities, we were able to prove the age of these cognacs. So 20 year old is a revival from the past respecting the old traditions.  Aged in damp cellars we let the cognac reduce naturally their alcoholic strength.  When you leave nature to do its work you are always rewarded.

Colour
Pale gold, bright with an orangey touch.

Nose
The nose is rich and the structure is distinguished giving signs of the origins of a chalky soil. Aromas of fresh hazelnuts, butter, almonds, gingerbread and Santal wood.

Mouth
The mouth is mellow, long and full.  This cognac has been distilled with light ‘lies’.  Final woody impressions with the same aromas as to the nose together with bitter chocolate, leather and honey.

XO Very old Grande Champagne

Characteristics :
Created by Jean Burnez, grandfather of the current President, in the early 1930s, the blend went by the name of ‘Patriarche’, befitting its character as a personal selection by the senior member of the family. While the base of very old cognacs aged in damp, cool cellars has remained unchanged over generations, each successive Master Blender has brought his personal touch to the final product with a small number of additional eaux-de-vie, while respecting the natural, rich and complex character of this great cognac. Jean’s son Claude developed a somewhat heavier style with a greater degree of wood, while Claude’s son and current master blender Stéphane prefers a slightly lighter, more modern style of cognac, with a little less oak, reflecting his wish to taste the eaux-de-vie rather than the barrels in which they have aged. Throughout these current and future evolutions, the Très Vieille Grande Champagne will remain one of the signature blends of Maison Prunier, a truly old and magnificent example of what the Cognac region’s premier cru is capable

Colour
Burnished amber with gold highlights

Nose
Like all very old cognacs the first nose is a little closed, but swirling the glass will reveal notes of menthol, leather, candied fruits, walnuts, dark chocolate and a hint of liquorice. Creamy tannins melt into the voluptuous, clean nose. ‘Rancio’ dominated by vanilla and tobacco as the cognac warms up. Satisfyingly complete.

Mouth
The well-rounded power of the Grande Champagne characterizes the opening notes, with a delightful elegance and floral finesse. Further notes of archetypal ‘rancio’, fresh hazelnuts, dark chocolate and toffee follow into an exceptionally long finish.

About us

Company details

When you are enamoured of Cognac, like myself, you can only talk about it with passion.  Each product has a story to tell, its own story. As a book, a story or a poem which you will always remember, a good cognac is never forgotten.

Since eleven generations, the House of Prunier, one of the oldest cognac houses, has learnt how to keep its own history alive together with its  identity and esteem for its products.  Each member of the family has maintained the motto: quality and respect of local traditions.
Each one has watched over our heritage while remaining open to the world, Paraguay, Australia, Mexico, Ghana, China….Prunier was one of the first houses to open to new markets.  While following sociological evolutions, artistic tendencies and new techniques, our strength is to keep a foot in the past and have a view of the future.

Today it is my turn to pass on the memory of the House of Prunier.  In a few years times the sixth generation will continue the story.  For the moment I watch over our products which are the heart of the trade,  while preparing tomorrow.  Without forgetting the past the House of Prunier continues without respite to search to offer you the best products.  In each of our bottles you will read our history and passion.
