I would strongly suggest you arm yourself with many bottles of Sevilen, 900 Fume Blanc. This is a bone-dry, super-refreshing Sauvignon Blanc grown on the limestone/clay of the Guney Plateau inland from Izmir and would be an absolute godsend on a hot day in Turkey. It reminds me rather of PHI Sauvignon Blanc from a particularly cool part of the Yarra Valley. Searing acidity, but also have quite enough fruit as well.”

It is the name of Sevilen Vineyards, which was established on Guney Plateau, at 900 metres above sea level. Three varieties of wines are included in 900 concepts: 900 Fume Blanc dry white, 900 Cabernet Sauvignon dry red and 900 Petit Verdot dry red. This wine is single vineyard (estate wine) and high-segment (for which good agricultural practices are conducted) and limited-production.


This is the first 100% Petit Verdot wine ever created in our country. The wine is a varietal of Petit Verdot grapes grown at the Sevilen Wines Guney Plateau vineyard located in Denizli. It has a strong flavor in addition to its elegant and medium length taste. It is matured for 14 months in French oak casks and in bottles for 12 months.

A new Cabernet Sauvignon was born out of the first produce of a special vineyard located 900 meters above the sea level. Sevilen 900 owes its intense, yet elegant taste, complete with soft tannins, to the concentration of the grapes ripening for a relatively longer period due to the climatic conditions of higher elevations. Sevilen 900 is first matured for 14 months in French oak casks, and then 12 months in bottles, which offers a refined experience with a long lasting aromatic and silky taste.

White Dry Wine • 100% Chardonnay • Aegean • 75 cl

A varietal of French Chardonnay ripened under the sun at the Sevilentepe vineyard. After completion of fermentation in French oak, the wine is left to settle for 12 months on its own lees in French oak casks and then bottled after a limited filtration process. A full bodied Burgundy style wine possessing the complete richness and fullness of oak fermentation. We recommend pouring the wine into a carafe just before drinking. It is a perfect accompaniement to shellfish such as lobster and crayfish and oily fish like turbot.

SEVILEN LATE HARVEST

Produced from Bornova Muscat, which is a special and original grape of the Izmir province of the Aegean Region, Sevilentepe Bornova Muscat vineyard harvest is produced during the 1st or 2nd week of November depending on climate conditions. The grapes are then fermented in French oak barrels through direct crushing. After 12 months of maturation in oak barrels, the 50 cl is bottled and the maturation is performed for 1 month. The wine is the first sweet wine produced in Turkey, and it can be served with desserts.

It is a beautiful golden color with the intensity of ripe white fruit. The main aromatic notes are sweet spice, cinnamon, and dried apricot, with some minerals. A full-bodied wine with a natural acidity, it leaves a long, silky taste in the mouth and has a very pleasant finish.

KALECİK KARASI Pronunciation: Kah-le-djic-car-ah-ser A splendid vintage in general for the Kalecik Karasi with perfect weather throughout the season.  Modest crops have given the wine excellent fruit expression. On release the wine shows vibrant aromas and flavours suggest intense red fruit character( black cherries, blackberries, and raspberries). The fruit is drived with savoury notes of grilled mushrooms and wood-smoke. Presenting a very soft attack, it rapidly expands to become powerful, while at the same time, it remains refined, fresh and elegant, with a lingering after-taste.

Pronunciation: Oh-cooz-goe-zue It first shows a vibrant fresh hue. The aroma is multi-layered and complex, suggesting bright red fruits like blackberries, blueberries, or plums. There are also savoury nuances of roast meats and grilled mushrooms, with whiffs of wood-smoke. The entrance is very fresh and seductive. The mouthfeel is quite structure for a Okuzgozu but shows savour and marvellous velvet tannins. The long aromatic persistency allows to discover the fascinating nuances of the Okuzgozu.

In 1942, after having discovered vineyards and winemaking in France, Mr. Isa Guner, a first-generation immigrant from Bulgaria, founded his own winery in Izmir, Turkey. Understanding that there was outstandingnatural potential in Turkey for wine production, he purchased 4 hectares and started planting vineyards. In 1958, Mr. Guner’s sons, Mr. Gokhan Guner and Mr. Coskun Guner joined the business developing the property to 50 hectares. Nowadays the property, composed of 150 hectares of vineyard and a first class restaurant (Isabey), is managed by the third generation of the Guner family. They are assisted by experienced French consultant Mr. Florent Dumeau from the Bordeaux region. Sevilen Group has been

working on the terroir approach (Soil, local climate and vineyard architecture, rootstock, varietal, vine spacing, leaf area per hectare, crop per vine) with already outstanding results. Today, Sevilen produces grapes for premium wines on two sites:

 

• Aegean Area, around Izmir, a warm Mediterranean climate

• Anatolia Plateau, a cool Mediterranean climate

 

In Izmir (150 metres of elevation) climate conditions are close to those of Bari or Athens. In the Anatolian plateau (900 metres of elevation), climate conditions are similar to the Rhone valley (Hermitage, Chateauneuf du Pape) but drier during the summer. On both sites, soils are unique with a complex distribution, alternation of chalk and shale (heavy clay) and occurrence of limestone. This diversity of soil and climate allows the production of very qualitative white and red wine always presenting a unique expression. After having totally restructured part of his vineyard, plus adding new plantations, Sevilen Group now produces ten million bottles/ year of qualitative wines. Winemaking techniques are very modern. With a full brand new reception (double sorting table), the pre-fermentative process respects the integrity of the grapes, which are all hand-harvested. Working with gravity, juices and wines are moved as carefully as  possible throughout the aging process. A selection of top French cooperage, in association with a Turkish university, has been developed in order to research the best solutions for our wines.
