Anecdotes This wine is named after the tower today still present in Torgiano: the literal translation of the name is “Tower of Janus”. It was originally dedicated to the Roman mythological god Janus (the god of war and peace). This tower is today the symbol of the village.
Bianco di Torgiano DOC A white wine with great structure, balanced and elegant. the bouquet has floral scents and notes of linden, thyme, and acacia flowers, delicate hints of coconut, vanilla and white chocolate; sapid and fragrant flavour with a long finish as well as balanced, refreshing acidity.
Grape varietals Trebbiano and Grechetto from the “Il Pino” hillside vineyard; double Guyot pruning system, harvested by hand in September in small crates
Vinification After cryomaceration, one third of the free-run juice is fermented and aged on the fine lees in barrique for 3 months; the remaining two-thirds ferment in stainless steel. After blending, the wine is bottled and refined at length in bottle before release to the market.
Food pairings dishes of haute cuisine, particularly fish and seafood (crab salad, grilled lobster, raw scampi, sea-bass in salt crust); it is also particularly indicated for cappelletti (meat-stuffed pasta) in broth, risotto – especially if truffle-based –and white meats in general (grilled chicken skewers).
Sizes ml 750; ml 1500
Anecdotes A special selection of Torre di Giano, it was one of the first Italian white wines to be aged in wood, as early as the 1970’s, many years before the more recent trends. The name recalls the Roman origins of Torgiano, testified by the tower dedicated to Janus, the double-faced god. On the label is a bas-relief depicting the harvest, detail from the Fontana Maggiore of Perugia, one of Italy’s most beautiful 13th century fountains.
Rosso di Torgiano DOC A red with balanced body and a fine ruby colour. Its aromas are typically spicy and consist of pepper and sweet tobacco; the background notes hint at red-fruit jam and violet. A pleasant drinkability with good concentration, mature and harmonious tannins with a long-lasting fruity finish.
Grape varietals Sangiovese and Colorino, spurred cordon pruning system, harvested between September and October
Vinification Fermented in stainless steel with 15 days of skin maceration; aged one year in cask and one in bottle, after a light filtering.
Food pairings strangozzi pasta with red onion and cheek bacon, BBQ with spicy sauce, T-bone steak, beef fillet with balsamic condiment and extra virgin olive oil, roast beef with roast potatoes , stewed eel, eggplant caponata, rotisserie chicken, slightly aged cheeses (pecorino, parmigiano), traditional lasagne alla Bolognese. Thanks to its moderate body it is also excellent for preparing sauces
Sizes ml 375; ml 750; ml 1500
Anecdotes A DOC wine since 1968, it is Lungarotti’s most popular wine worldwide. Rubesco is a proprietary brand, derived from the Latin verb rubescere; to blush: hence, a joyous meaning. On the label, a bas-relief depicting the harvest, detail from the Fontana Maggiore of Perugia, one of Italy’s most beautiful 13th-century fountains.
Lungarotti and Rubesco Founded in the early 60’s by Giorgio Lungarotti, the company soon became a driving force that opened up new opportunities not only for Torgiano but for the whole Umbria: wine as the centerpiece of a very high quality touristic and productive center, and cornerstone of a highly integrated promotional tool for the whole region.
