About us

Company details

The Mastroberardino family, a landmark of the Italian viticulture, has always been recognized as the leading guardian of indigenous grapes in Irpinia and in Campania.

The family, in fact, has always paid great attention to the safeguard and valorization of grape varieties such as Aglianico, Fiano, Greco, Falanghina, Piedirosso, and Coda di Volpe, which origins date back to the Greek colonization period and Roman times.

Innovation, research, and experimentation accompany the work of recovery and revival of the oldest biotypes and improve their character, in order to preserve biodiversity within these varietal families and increase their quality potential.
The first traces of the Mastroberardino enterprise at its present location in Atripalda date back to the mid Eighteenth century; since then, ten generations of the family have followed.
In 1878, with the registration of the family business to the Chamber of Commerce of Avellino, Angelo Mastroberardino, Cavaliere dell’Ordine della Corona d’Italia and great-grandfather of the current President, Piero Mastroberardino, starts to export the family wines first into Europe and then, thanks to the pioneering and long trips of his son Michele Mastroberardino, towards North America and Latin America.
The ancient message of the great wines of Irpinia lights up the family entrepreneurial commitment even during the difficult years of the mid twentieth century when, despite the damage caused both by phylloxera and World War II, Antonio Mastroberardino, Cavaliere al Merito del Lavoro and Piero’s father, remained the only staunch defender of the local indigenous viticulture, going against popular and scholars’ pressures that tended to abandon that tradition and turn towards more productive and less valuable
varieties.

He was the creator and maker of the replanting program that opened the way for the revival of viticulture in Irpinia, projecting it towards the current worldwide recognition.
The guide of the family business is now entrusted to Piero Mastroberardino, at the helm of the company since the mid-nineties.
He is the tenth generation vintner of the Mastroberardino family and also Professor of Business Management at the University and author of numerous scientific publications on issues of international management.
His professional and entrepreneurial profile is linked with the artistic one that is realized in the fields of drawing and painting, narrative and poetry. In fact from 2011 he has published two novels, Umano Errare and Giro di Vite, and two collections of poetry, All’origine dei sensi and Frammenti, the latter in the form of the artist’s book. With his paintings he realized many personal and collective exhibitions in Italy and abroad and many of his works are in national and international collections.
