Product category: Friuli Venezia-Giulia

The Winery Anselmi, located in the north-east of Italy, in Friuli region, was founded in the 1920 from Anselmi grandparents who have passed on to their children and grandchildren their traditional experience and sense of belonging to earth. The mild climate of this area, given the remarkable closeness to the sea, linked to winds from the coastal areas, allows the right condensation of moisture needed for precipitation. The vineyards, about 150 hectares, entirely cultivated crop of lives, extending in a territory recognized, what is the Friuli, since the time of the ancient Romans who, retreating from the coastal area to the hinterland, began the great tradition of wine in this region. The production is a good choice on the best grapes recognized in all the world as Pinot Grigio, Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, along with other varieties. But detailed, is also the production of grape varieties typical of this region, as the Refosco from Peduncolo Rosso, Ribolla Gialla, Tocai Friulano, Verduzzo Friulano, the Franconia, Schioppettino, Pignolo, Moscato Rosa and, even if not properly indigenous, even Prosecco that rarely is grown in this region.

The farm is located in the heart of the DOC called Colli Orientali del Friuli. The property covers an area of 35 hectares, of which 25 hectares are cultivated with vineyards. The yield per hectare is contained: about two kilos per plant and production is about 120,000 bottles a year. After a careful manual harvesting, cleaning is done with the technique of cooling, followed by a fermentation done at controlled temperatures. After this operation the wine is allowed to stand in steel or in barrels until the time of bottling. Colli Orientali del Friuli terraces are sweet and sunny, ideal for viticulture, practiced in these areas since ancient times. The land consists mainly of clay, stratified marl and limestone. This special terroire, which takes the name of Ponca, is particularly suited to viticulture, as the combined effect of human work with the action of water, wind, sun and defrosts of winter makes it rich in salts and trace elements . In the production of wine, modern technologies are combined with an ancient wisdom and dedication and our wine products become expressions of our land and its special characteristics.

Franco Conterno

The Conterno family, proprietors of the Azienda Agricola Sciulun, have been producing wines of uncommon elegance and prestige for several generations. The estate of around twenty-five acres of vineyards is located in the heart of the Langhe hills, in the Bussia area of the village of Monforte d'Alba. The vines are tended following environmentally-friendly, traditional methods, though none of the benefits made available by modern technology are overlooked. The unlimited attention dedicated by the Conterno family to these wines comes to fruition as they ferment in the winery at a low temperature with constant rackings, and then age in oak casks in the silence and darkness of the cellar. Today the 10 hectares of vineyards are worked using traditional growing methods by Franco Conterno, assisted by his wife Vilma. Great respect is shown for the environment, while the benefits made available by modern technology are taken advantage of to the full. The composition of the soil, the lie of the land (80% of the vineyards face south/south-west) and the area's outstanding microclimate, combined with skilful, traditional vinification, give Franco Conterno's wines remarkable, unique tasting properties.

About us

Company details

Italian Wine Selections is a sales and marketing agency specializing in the promotion and commercialization of top quality Italian Regional wines abroad. The list of the estates we have been working with is the result of extensive research, patience, and cultivated relationships. Our selection began 22 years ago by choosing small, unknown, family run wineries. Through our work and due diligence we have grown stronger in the business and today we are partners with some very unique wineries who have achieved some of the highest accolades in the industry. Indigenous territories or 'terroir' are paramount for us, so much that all the wine-makers we partner with only produce wines from local grapes. We guarantee our customers the most competitive prices in the market and our logistic skills allow us to provide top quality service and deliveries. We offer the opportunity for our clients to place minimal orders to avoid excessive stock thus providing them the ability to turn inventory and maintain quality. We strive for strategic marketing, which is why we along with our partnering companies, we participate in trade shows, host wine tasting events, and conduct market visits throughout the year to successfully educate and penetrate the market. We arrange trips and tours to the estates we represent in order to give our clients the opportunity to experience the culture of every single region first hand. We understand that wine is more than just a product but a representation of the earth, flavours, traditions and culture from the region from where it comes. Italian Wine Selections brings the wine from the farm to the table.
