Laurus - Parcel Selections

Laurus means ‘Laurel’ in Latin, a Roman symbol of excellence. Here excellence is all about “terroir”: the grapes are grown on parcels selected for their ability to express the very best of each Appellation.
The term “terroir” encompasses a soil, a climate and people. Here it is expressed through sustainable partnerships with wine-growers who share our vision. The maturing process in 275-litre Laurus barrels refines the structure, producing complex wines with plenty of character and good cellaring potential.

Gabriel Meffre

Delicious and savoury from day one: this is the commitment of our Gabriel Meffre "signature" wines. For each appellation, and in keeping with the characteristics of the vintage, our know-how is recognisable through our experienced blending of "terroirs" and grape varieties and through our careful maturing, favouring purity of fruit and silkyness of texture. Already enjoyable in their first year after bottling, the Crus also have good aging potential.

Wild Pig

We have vineyards in Languedoc as well as in the Rhône Valley and work closely with winegrowers in both regions. We have always produced wines of great taste and quality, respecting the terroir, soils and grape varieties to bring out the purest expression of each one.

Wild Pig comes from Greta’s story...
Running into a wild pig in the vines of the Languedoc is by no means a rare occurrence. Each year as the harvest draws nearer, these animals and their voracious appetites drive the grapegrowers mad. Among these gluttonous animals was a female who came regularly to the same vineyard to feast, despite Véronique’s numerous attempts to chase her off!
One day, when Véronique was visiting the vineyard, she found the beast lying on its side, injured and decided to take care of the poor animal. Little by little the animal recovered from her injury.
The pig was released from her shelter on November 16th 1997, the day celebrating "Saint-Margaret" in France.

This is why Véronique chose to name her "Greta", short for "Margaret", and dedicated the WILD PIG range to her : fruity wines made from the best grapes that Greta would have preferred to eat them...

MAISON GABRIEL MEFFRE'S STRATEGIC PROJECT 2017-2021: “Be a leading winery established in the Rhone Valley, strongly commited to sustainable development & wine growing in the region”

As we have celebrated our 80th Anniversary this year,  the management team has provided an ambitious 5-year strategic project. This plan reflects the winery’s ambition to be a reference in the Rhone Valley, recognized for its prestigious Domaines & Parcel selections, its successful & innovative brands, its pioneer work in sustainable development and commitment to wine growing within the region.

As the Gabriel Meffre Winery was recognized “Socially Responsible” with the “Level 3 – Confirmed” of the AFAQ 26000 evaluation in June 2015, Eric Brousse, CEO & Etienne Maffre, Managing Director have formalized an ambitious 5-year strategic project that combines top performance and sustainability. “This project formalizes in a concrete manner our ambition and the means to achieve it. says Etienne Maffre “It gives us a clear direction. Elaborated with our team, it is also shared with our stakeholders .”

This strategic ambition is built around 4 core principles :
-          Secure the long-term growth & development of our winery through internal and external expansion,
-          Unite the team  in a sound & ethical development project,
-          Strenghten the Winery’s reputation, driven by the quality of its wines & best practices,
-          Give meaning to a development closely related to sustainability issues, focus of concern for the Winery & achieving the “Level 4            Exemplarity” of the AFAQ 26000 evaluation in 2018.

For Eric Brousse, CEO: “Our Winery has many specificities which makes us very proud. We want to put them forward as driving forces to reach our goals. NEW CLOTHES FOR OUR COTES DE PROVENCE ROSE "GM par Gabriel Meffre"

Jan. 2017 – The packaging of our Côtes de Provence Rosé has been completely revamped. On this highly competitive market where packaging is a key element of success, this new label demonstrates the innovative & creative spirit behind the Gabriel Meffre Winery.  The new vintage will be presented at the PROWEIN fair - Booth 11H50.

A modern & premium packaging
The Côtes de Provence “GM par Gabriel Meffre” is available in Jeroboam (3lt), Magnum (1.5lt), 75cl & 37.5cl. The label and capsule are taup-coloured to contrast with the delicate pink color of the wine. The “GM” logo is diamond-relief embossed in a bright, metallic rosé.  The illustration evokes the Mediterranean sun in a firework  shape, hinting at the explosive aromas of this new vintage.

Côtes de Provence :  historically in the portfolio of the winery
Although the Gabriel Meffre Winery has its roots in the Rhône Valley since 1936, a connection to the Côtes de Provence region dates back to the early ‘60s. A close collaborator of Gabriel Meffre – from the Var area, the heart of the Côtes de Provence – persuaded him to invest in the region, convinced that wine and tourism would play a great part in its development. 50 years later, our Côtes de Provence “GM par Gabriel Meffre” pays tribute to this insight!

The Côtes de Provence “GM par Gabriel Meffre” rosé 2016
The vines are located around the base of the Mont Saint Victoire, near the lovely city of Aix-en-Provence. This imposing mountain protects the vines from the Mistral wind and harsch winter conditions.  Grenache and Syrah grow on clay and limestone soils on “espaliers” or terraces. They benefit from a Mediterranean climate, tempered by an altitude of 300 meters.
Harvesting takes place early in the morning, while temperatures are cool and the grapes still fresh.
After a short pre-fermentation soak (3 to 6 hours), the juices are racked off, blended and fermented. Each variety is vinified individually at low temperature to favour lively floral and fruit aromas. Bottling took place in early January 2017.
