Barolo Riserva Docg Vigna Rionda

The soil and microclimate of the Vigna Rionda make it possible to obtain wines with exceptional structure and potency. Traditional vinification, with a long maceration and a slow ageing of 42 months in large Slavonian oak caske, fully enhances the gifts of this cru, respecting the natural predisposition for long ageing.

Appearance: bright garnet red.
Bouquet: from very intensely floral in the early years to characteristic “goudron” as it ages, through a multitude of scents which are always particularly seductive.
Flavour: probably the most potent of all our products, it perfectly summarises the essential characteristics of Barolo wine, such as grand structure, excellent alcohol concentration and tannins capable of guaranteeing very long ageing.
It opens up gradually and reaches its maximum and most important expression after ageing for a few years; this leads to its release for sale in the sixth year after harvesting with an increasingly consistent part of the wine being held back for release in the tenth year!!!!

It is best to decant and serve it at temperatures between 18-20°C.

It expresses its best potential when served with meat dishes, rich in intense and persistent aromas and flavours, such as joints of lamb or kid. Also, thanks to its marked tannins, it is simply superb with the bitter-sweet alternation of furry and feathered game.
A complex wine, constantly in evolution, capable of guaranteeing unique sensations for refined and demanding palates.

Barolo Docg Parussi

The excellent south-easterly/south-westerly exposure of the vineyard in Castiglione Falletto situated on the crest of the hill, in the Parussi sub-zone, guarantees the production of excellent quality grapes. The soil, deeper and richer in sandy components than in Serralunga d’Alba, conveys remarkable elegance and mineral notes, well combined with great, silky tannins.

Appearance: deep garnet red
Bouquet: ethereal and enveloping with intense and persistent notes of sweet spices, sandalwood, tobacco and leather.
Flavour: Great structure. Remarkable tannin which softens with time and make it a perfect wine also for ageing. Its very long finish is typical of Barolos from Castiglione Falletto.

It is best to decant and serve it at temperatures between 18-20°C.

Parussi is the first Barolo made from grapes grown outside Serralunga d’Alba, in another fantastic area: Castiglione Falletto. The traditional vinification and ageing processes, which are the same as those used for its “Barolo brothers” from Serralunga d’Alba, highlight the well-known capacity of Nebbiolo grapes to deliver Barolos with different fascinating characteristics reflecting even the slightest changes in the microclimate and soil the grapes were grown in.
Perfect with the rich, traditional cuisine of the region, stewed meats and medium- long matured cheeses.

About us

Company details

The history of the Massolinos and their wine became entwined with the history of Serralunga d’Alba in 1896, when Giovanni founded the Estate. Giovanni was the very first person to bring the electric current to the village. An enterprising, tenacious and creative man, progenitor of a family that has made the combination of inspiration and tradition something to be proud of. The first wine cellar was built by Giuseppe, son of the founder Giovanni, who, together with his sister Angela, extended his estate into the best soils and, in 1934, was one of the founders of the Consortium for the Defence of Barolo and Barbaresco. At that time, Giuseppe had six children. Three of them, Giovanni, Camilla and Renato, followed in their father’s footsteps, expanding the estate with the purchase of cru vineyards which are authentic jewels: Margheria, Parafada and Vigna Rionda. In the 1990’s Franco and Roberto, both oenologists, joined the family estate. Their work condenses the experience of an entire family and the ambition of a new generation, determined to make an important contribution to the innovation of oenological and agronomical techniques and to the image of the estate in Italy and abroad. Making wine with passion, in its land of origin, preserving the typical characteristics of the autochthonous grape varieties, being convinced that there is a deep and tangible link between the vines, hills and winegrowers, made up of affinities cemented, by habit, to the land. Since 1896, the Massolino family has been making wine this way, loyal to this philosophy and to the capacity for innovation in the name of tradition.
