In 1996, at an age when most people are thinking of retiring, the three Canepa sisters, -Gilda, Edda and Antonieta-, responding to their passion for the production of fine wines which has been part of their family’s life since 1930’s, decided to link their well established vineyards holdings to a state-of-the-art, brand new winery. This decision marked the founding of TerraMater.
The name TerraMater – Mother Land in Latin – tells us a lot about the company itself. This is a company that was born from exceptional lands, covered by noble and well established vines of 50, 60 and even 70 years old. The vineyard can easily be found on the family properties, together with marvelous olive groves with thick trunks and green leafage, which produce the best Extra Virgin Olive Oil of Chile, and also apple orchards, which bear their abundant fruits during the summer months, making a true spectacle.
TerraMater represents the perfect combination of traditional Chilean top quality winemaking practices, the search for innovation and the concern to achieve the very best our vineyards can deliver through the creation of wines which truly pay homage to the generosity of our Mother Earth.
We seek to recover the family flavors and values in healthy and authentic food given to us by our Mother Earth. We want to bring them to the palates of the greatest number of people in the world, thus promoting a healthier and happier life, A BETTER LIFESTYLE!
TerraMater works to obtain the best products of our Mother Earth, being an specialist in the production of fine wines and extra virgin olive oils. We want to be present in restaurants, specialized shops and homes of the world, contributing with flavors, quality and healthy products.

We our doing our best effort to reduce our carbon emissions and this way contribute to the fight against global warming. These are some initiatives we are currently implementing:
Biomass: on April 2011 we started to use biomass organic matter generated in a process, usable as an energy source on our boilers process. On the Extra Virgin Olive Oil extraction we obtain 100grs of seed for each kilogram of olives, and we recover 905 of that (90grs). From April to June we process 2,200 tons of olives (220 tons. of seeds or biomass). The boiler consumption is equal to 50kg. of seeds er hour. With the gas boiler we consumed 60lts. of gas per hour, and with the oil boiler 45lts of oil per hour.
Glass Consumption Reduction: we modified our bottles of wine to reduce beween 10% to 15% of the amount of glass we use. This way we achieved an important reduction of the carbon emission coming from the glass production, and also we managed to reduce the weight of our shipments, which implies a lower use of fuel for the transportation.
