Altos de Rioja

Although a relative newcomer to Rioja, this boutique estate in the heart of the Rioja Alavesa is passionately led by a group of experienced winemakers with impeccable credentials in the world of Spanish wine. Joint owners and longstanding winemakers Roberto San Ildefonso and Bienvenido Muñoz together with flying winemaker Jean-Marc Sauboua are creating a range of uniquely modern Rioja wines.

In a short time,  they have used their decades of combined experience and long winemaking heritage to achieve a high level of quality and a distinctive personality in their wines that is rarely seen in new endeavours. Their rapid success is the result of a strong guiding philosophy and a determination to balance the richness of terroir and the traditional vineyard management with the latest technological advances.

Valtravieso

In the heart of Ribera del Duero, more than 900 metres above sea level, stands the Valtravieso estate surrounded by its vineyards. This dynamic winegrower blends tradition with state-of-the-art winemaking methods to make wines that are unique, full of sensations and that express the singularity and personality of the appellation.

The goal of  Valtravieso’s team is to exploit its privileged location to extract the true potential of the Tempranillo, Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon varieties. The estates´ 83 hectares of vineyards feature a chalky clay soil that is dry, shallow and poor in nutrients, making it ideal to grow vines that are exceptionally robust. At Valtravieso, a combination of altitude, climate, the soil and a meticulous care converge in a spectacular display of the essence of the terroir, vine and traditions of Ribera del Duero.

R&G Rolland Galarreta

Two cultures and two different winemaking styles but with a common goal have brought together French winemaker and consultant Michel Rolland and Spanish wine visionary Javier Galarreta. They both believe that Spain has excellent terroir and extensive know-how to make premium wines with real projection in the international markets.

As one of the most influential winemakers in the world, Michel Rolland has worked with winegrowers across 13 countries and has influenced many aspects of both the French and global wine industry. Since establishing ARAEX Grands Spanish Fine Wines in 1993, Javier Galarreta has applied his knowledge to place Spanish wines amongst the greatest. The firm, which was expanded in 2001 to add a wider range of Spanish wines to the original Rioja portfolio, is one the leading wine exporters in Spain. An innovative project: France meets Spain.

Entrepreneur

Javier Ruíz de Galarreta founded ARAEX Rioja Alavesa in 1993 bringing together nine small and medium sized independent winegrowers from the Rioja Alavesa region. In just a few years, ARAEX became one of the main drivers of the production and export of the appellation.

In 2001, as the global popularity of Spanish wines expanded, along with his business prospects outside Rioja Alavesa, Javier created Spanish Fine Wines, a second company that grouped winegrowers from other respected Spanish regions, including Ribera del Duero, Rueda, Navarra, Rias Baxias, Cava and La Mancha. Now operating under the brand name ARAEX Grands Spanish Fine Wines Javier continues to create new wine ventures characterized by quality, global projection and respect toward the regional identity and heritage of his Spanish vineyards, as well as new collaborations.

From the crafting of prestigious wines to the organisation of tasting panels, ARAEX Grands Spanish Fine Wines‘ activities stand out for their excellence and vision. Among our latest initiatives, the current cooperation with the world renowned winemaker Michel Rolland is especially remarkable.

Javier also introduced the Spanish Fine Wines Institute to enhance education and appreciation for Spanish wines and wine culture among wine trade and consumers, lead scientific research in the wine sector and promote environmental stewardship and social responsibility in the sector.

“We are glad to welcome you to learn more about ARAEX Grands Spanish Fine Wines and, above all, to enjoy the great range of premium wine brands that we offer to the world”.
