The tannis are still powerful and need to soften further, so drink this complex, concentrated wine from 2016.

91 points - Quinta dos Quatro Ventos 2010 (Douro) - From the eastern vineyards of the Douro, in Douro Superior, this estate wine is heavily structured while showing rich fruit and impressive tannins. The texture is strongly mineral, complex and hinting at the concentration from fruit grown in this hot, dry climate. Drink from 2016.

90 points - Aliança Baga 2009 (Bairrada) - Baga, a grape unique to the Bairrada region, has a reputation for producing tough wines when young. This wine, however, shows the potential of aging the variety. Ripe and rich in character, this wine marries powerful blackberry tones with brooding, structured tannins. It could still age further, but the wine is very drinkable now.

89 points - Alabastro Reserva Red 2011 (Alentejo) - A dark and richly dense wine, this is packed with black fruit notes and concentrated tannins. Aged in French and American oak, it has a strongly spicy character, with bright acid and a solid tannic structure. Drink after 2015.

87 points - Foral 2013 (Douro) - While the wine is soft and almost ready to drink, it does also have the Douro mineral texture and dry tannins. The Tinta Roriz (Tempranillo) dominates, giving the wine its round and rich character. Drink now or wait until 2016 for the tannins to soften further.

87 points - Aliança Bairrada Reserva Red 2011 (Bairrada) - The local Baga grape makes an appearance in this blend, creating a firm texture with solid tannins. Its rich, dense core is dark and brooding in character, but could soften out with age. Drink after 2015.

91 points - Má Partilha 2010 (Península de Setúbal) - High density planting of a vineyard on the slopes of the Azeitão mountains has produced a rich and seriously dense wine. It has enormous amounts of spice, oak-aged flavours and bitter tannins. The red fruits are lost at this stage in the welter of other flavours, but with time its true, impressive colours with shine. 89 points - JP Private Selection 2011 (Península de Setúbal) - A 10 month stint in oak has given this rich wine a seriously spicy character supported by dark chocolate and black fruit flavours. Syrah, Castelão and Cabernet Sauvignon give this young wine tannins and a dark texture that needs to soften. Drink after 2016. Grape Expectations.

89 points - Monte das Ânforas 2013 (Alentejo) - All the heat of the Alentejo is encapsulated in this wine. It is rich, dense, and warmly ripe, with gentle tannins that wrap around the fruit structure. Red berry and spice, with lively acidity offers a well-rounded wine that will be ready to drink after 2015. Grape Expectations.

89 points - Quinta do Carmo Red 2011 (Alentejo) - This is a powerful and dense wine, displaying dry, concentrated tannins over tart black fruit tones. Bitter chocolate flavours are also evident from the oak aging. It might need time to balance out - drink after 2016. Grape Expectations.

88 points - Serras de Azeitão Red 2013 (Península de Setúbal) - There is a satisfying blend of Merlot and Syrah with Aragonez and Touriga Nacional to give a fruity wine that also manages to retain a strongly tannic structure. It's ripe, full in red fruits tones and can be drunk early, but will be better after 2015. Grape Expectations.

87 points - Tinto da Ânfora 2011 (Alentejo) - A regiment of 12 months in oak has smoothed out the tannins, and created an instantly drinkable wine. Red fruit tones provide a soft and rounded texture that contributes to this wine's approachable character. Grape Expectations.

85 points - Dom Martinho 2011 (Alentejo) - From a single vineyard in Estremoz, this structured and dense wine houses notes of bitter chocolate and tart berry. It's full of tannins and needs time to soften. Drink from 2016. Grape Expectations.
