WINES OF TURKEY at PROWEIN 2011

Wines of Turkey, a new generic body representing Turkish wine industry, is exhibiting at the Prowein. Under the campaign banner, ‘Discover the roots’, Wines of Turkey will show how the country has evolved from being the birthplace of wine to a modern producer of contemporary styles. Wines of Turkey will be located on stand Hall 3-A20.

The seven wineries sharing 70 m² Wines of Turkey stand are: Doluca Winery, Kavaklıdere Winery, Kayra Winery, Kocabağ Winery, Pamukkale Winery, Sevilen Winery and Vinkara Winery.

Turkey produces a broad range of wine styles, including international varieties such as merlot, chardonnay and sauvignon blanc, and indigenous varieties including “kalecik karası”, “boğazkere”, “öküzgözü”, “emir” and “narince”. These varieties from Turkey just received critical acclaim from World-Renowned Wine Critics such Jancis Robinson MW, Oz Clarke, Tim Atkins MW and Charles Metcalfe.

Wines of Turkey for the first time will organize tutored tastings within the Prowein both in the WoT stand in Meininger stand. The general theme of the tutored tastings will focus on indigenous grape varieties that Turkey is offering. The program is as follows:

Signature Varietals of Anatolia/Asia Minor “heart of the Grand Terrain”
The place of Anatolia in the viticultural and vinicultural history of the world. What are the best known grape varietals unique to Anatolia? What makes them so significant? Do they have any similarity with the internationally known varieties? What can be their added value to German market? You will find out new dimensions from possibly the oldest wine making geography!
(The tasting will include 12 different wines)

The Best Turkish White Varietal & Cuvee Wines Selected by Dr. Rolf Klein
Dr. Rolf Klein during his recent visit to Turkish vineyards and wineries has selected the best 12 white varietals & cuvee wines made by both Anatolian indigenous and international grape varieties.

Turkish wines will also be tasted at Meininger’s General Tasting Area in Hall No6.

When you visit the Turkish Wines stand in Prowein you may also have the chance to taste more than 100 different wines made by both indigenous and international varieties.

Taner Öğütoğlu Director of Wines of Turkey stated that “Turkish wines have made a big progress in terms of quality wine making. We can see this fact from the results of the international wine competitions. We started to get gold medals from the most prestigious international wine challenges such as Mundusvini, Concours Mondial de Bruxelles . Our guests at Prowein will have the chance to taste medal winning wines. Turkish wines are at a stage to start to enter to international markets in a new dimension. Turkish wines will be among the other internationally recognized winemaking countries. Our target is to reach to German wine lovers via retail chains and distinguished restaurants. Prowein 2011 will be a milestone to witness the spring of Turkish wines. We are at the start point and acceleration will be fast. Turkish wine will no longer be ethnic but international wine.
