While from 23 to 25 March the exhibition halls of leading wine fair ProWein will be open solely to trade visitors from throughout the world, when the trade fair closes its doors for the evening restaurateurs, hoteliers and specialist retailers will once again be offering a varied range for all those interested in the topic of wines and spirits in Düsseldorf and surroundings.
This year, 50 restaurants, hotels and specialist retailers will be taking part in the joint initiative of Messe Düsseldorf and trade association Destination Düsseldorf with 90 events. ProWein goes City is aimed at all wine lovers alongside trade visitors wishing to wind down their day at the fair in a relaxed setting. Many of the vintners showcased at ProWein will be presenting their wines in person as part of the enjoyable events. ProWein goes City is the perfect accompaniment to the ProWein fair which is aimed at the trade audience,” says Boris Neisser, Board Member at Destination Düsseldorf. “This year we are delighted to see all Düsseldorf’s 5-star hotels plus numerous new partners on board alongside vintners made aware of ProWein goes City as exhibitors at Düsseldorf’s French Festival.”
Whether it is wine tastings, special wine menus, cooking courses or vinophile parties – the line-up ranges from a Californian wine evening with an exquisite 5-course menu (InterContinental) and the coveted Gourmet Walk with star chef (Maritim Hotel) through to a get-together featuring winegrowers from Greece (Askitis). Of course, at ProWein goes City lovers of wine and food from Germany (like VDP winemakers at Breidenbacher Hof), France (La Maison de Bacchus, Le Bouchon and more), Italy (Lettinis, Private Wein Compilation, Genussfaktor and more) as well as Spain (like Cala D’or, Wein & Mehr) will also be catered to at the numerous events in store. Champagne lovers can look forward to sparkling enjoyment at the Institut Français and at a grand Champagne Gala at the Steigenberger Parkhotel or taste a variety of top brands while watching an exciting film about the production of this sophisticated tipple (Champagner Galerie & plaisir – French Wines).
Numerous New Participants
Newcomers to the event this year include the Hyatt Regency, Restaurant Landsknecht in Büderich, Auermühle in Ratingen as well as Jacques Weindepot which will be offering special vintner wine tasting sessions at three different locations. Also featuring for the first time now will be Karl’s with the winegrower Rings, the wine merchant rotweiss presenting nine top wine producers from Hungary as well as Sansibar by Breuninger: here visitors can look forward to an exclusive Champagne evening and wine tasting themed under the heading “Pfalz meets Sylt”.
Those wishing to come together with winegrower Fred Prinz and other wine friends and chat around a large table while enjoying a culinary menu can take part in the “Kontakttafel” at Fehrenbach Platz. Lovers of wine and chocolate can follow the tracks of the cocoa bean – and obviously taste perfect paired fine chocolate to go with the selected wines (VIF Weinhandel). A culinary concert with Italian vintners and food along with songs and titbits round off the comprehensive line-up of events (Ars Vivendi).
What dish matches the bouquet of a Chardonnay? What wine accessories are indispensable? These questions will be answered at the Frank Petzchen cooking events and at the ZWILLING store on the Königsallee. At the Industrieclub 50 Swiss winemakers will be presenting their current ranges while at Lettinis Gusteria South Tyrol vintners will be centre stage. Wine tasting with a DJ or live music in a relaxed setting is offered at the WineLive Get-Together Party, D’VINE’s Open Kitchen Party, the Beats meet Oechsle event at Breidenbacher Hof and trade magazine Falstaff’s Big Bottle Party at Les Halles. Once again proving a real crowd magnet will be the big “Tre Bicchieri” degustation of top award-winning Italian wines (at Düsseldorf’s “Botschaft” venue).
Prices at ProWein goes City are as wide-ranging as the line-up and go from free wine tasting to the Champagne gala with an exquisite 5-course meal for €125.
