Ridgeback Wines is nestled against the Northern slopes of Paarl Mountain and a large portion of the farm is comprised of undisturbed Fynbos. Great effort is made to maintain this fragile balance between agriculture and natural flora and to this end Ridgeback Wines became a voluntary conservation site in 2005 and also gained BWI status.
Every year alien vegetation species are removed from the Fynbos areas and when new vineyards are planned we never encroach into these areas. Beautiful 100 year old Wild Olive trees are scattered across the farm with vineyards flowing between them and this is where small buck and Rooikat roam.
This quiet corner of Paarl provides ideal growing conditions for the vineyards which gives our three current brands, Ridgeback, Vansha and The Lion Hound their distinctively characteristic flavours.
Our distinctive wines reflect the character and individuality of the Rhodesian Ridgeback dog - the hallmark of our brand. The Rhodesian Ridgeback is native to South Africa. Its history can be traced to the Cape Colony of Southern Africa where the early pioneers used these dogs for lion hunting.
The vineyards include the following red varieties - Shiraz, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Mourvèdre, Petit Verdot and Grenache; the white varieties include Sauvignon Blanc and Viognier.
A modern winery designed to handle 300 tons has been built, and with it, an exclusive wine tasting centre. A small restaurant and four star Guest House completes the overall structure of Vansha Farming.
“We are proud to announce that we will be exhibiting at ProWein 2015. We would like to use this opportunity to strengthen our relationship with our current European markets and focus on finding new markets in countries where we are not represented yet.
Countries we would like to target include Poland, Austria, Slovakia, Hungary, Switzerland, Ukraine, Bulgaria, Finland and Russia. These are all countries where we do not have current representation.
We are in the process of scheduling meetings and would like to ask that should you be interested in the possibility of adding Ridgeback to your portfolio that you contact us for a meeting at ProWine as soon as possible.
Ridgeback Wines is known for consistently producing wines of the very highest quality as seen by yet another impressive year’s John Platter results which includes 6 x 4 star ratings and 1 x 4.5 star rating.”
