The Regulatory Council of Ribeiro, the oldest D.O. in Galicia, will be led by one of the most renowned wine communicators in Europe, sociologist, enologist, and sommelier.

The C.R.D.O. Ribeiro has introduced this morning to Cristina Alcalá as the new General Manager of the entity. The presentation took place at the headquarters of the Regulatory Council in Ribadavia, with the presence of the current president, Felicísimo Pereira.
The decision of choosing Cristina Alcalá, a recognized wine professional nationally and internationally, to be at the forefront of the management of the historical C.R.D.O. Ribeiro, has been taken by its plenary session, betting on Alcala’s experience and knowledge of the sector. The plenary session has valued her leadership capacity, proactive communication, and vision in designing strategies, aptitude and empathy with the productive sector. She is to give priority to quality processes, in order to achieve the recognition that D.O. Ribeiro deserves within the historical Appellations of Origin in Europe.
It is noteworthy that Cristina Alcalá knows well D.O. Ribeiro, their wineries and wines. On a recent visit to this appellation with the group of speakers from The Atlante Wine Forum, in which she participated, she valued "DO Ribeiro wines are in a sweet moment, everyone wants to know them, and that is great."
Over 18 years related to the wine sector
Cristina Alcalá holds a Degree in Sociology from the University of Madrid (Spain), a Master’s Degree in Viticulture and Enology from the Higher Technical School of Industrial Engineers (ETSI) in Madrid, a Sommelier Diploma from the Madrid Chamber of Commerce.
Her career is linked to the wine industry for more than 18 years as a consultant on marketing, promotion strategies, communication, branding, and the development and management of new business projects for private companies as well as public institutions. After many years living in Madrid, and a stay in California, she has returned to Galicia, where she was born, and admits to be in her best professional moment to achieve this great professional challenge; to consolidate the Ribeiro D.O. within the most important DDOOs in Europe.
She has been as director of media (5 Senses Wine and Vinum-MiVino) and regular contributor as a wine expert to National Radio of Spain and El País. Also others online food (7caníbales) and international wine magazines as Wine&Spirits (USA), Decanter (UK) or Vino&mas (Chile).
As a professional taster, she is Spanish representative at the prestigious competition Decanter World Wine Awards since 2008, and regular jury member at national and international competitions such as Concours Mondial de Bruxelles, Grenaches du Monde, Bacchus, Tempranillos al Mundo…
Regular at round tables, lectures and conferences in the wine industry, she has collaborated with the University of Santiago de Compostela, summer courses at the University Menendez Pelayo, University of Cadiz, summer courses at the University of the Basque Country, FENAVIN, Forum Gastronomic, Congress of Deputies, etc.
She received the Best Communication award 2013 by C.R.D.O. Ribeiro, and the Mirador del Vino Award 2015 for his career. In addition, she has also published two books: "El mundo del vino contado con sencillez”, (Ed. Maeva), and "Eligen Ellas”,(Ex-Libris Ed.).
