With a vineyard extension of approximately 4'200 hectares (10'380 acres), mainly bush vines, Bierzo is a valley where small plots grow from 400 metres up to 800 metres above sea level.
The main red grape grown in Bierzo is Mencía followed by Garnacha Tintorera (Alicante Bouschet). Then, as far as white grapes are concerned, we may find Godello, Doña Blanca, Palomino and Malvasía.
Depending on where they grow (type of soil, altitude,...), the characteristics of the grapes will be totally different and therefore the vineyard selection is a key factor to produce different wines with the same grape varieties. An infinity of treasures waiting to be discovered.
